The Tymes – So Much in Love

First Hit #1: August 3, 1963

The Tymes manage to make a simple song absolutely perfect. There’s not much going on here, just voices and finger snaps at first, and eventually you get some instruments. That’s all the song needs, the voices of the Tymes and that minimal instrumentation are all it needs. It’s fun and pretty, but it also works as a sincere love song and keeps your interest just by being so pretty, and the vocals being so effective.

I actually wonder if there’s a completely a capella version out there, it would certainly work well and I don’t think the song would lose anything if the bass guitar disappeared. It’s a really nice track, and a good testament to the power of the human voice.
