The Righteous Brothers – You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling

First Hit #1: February 6, 1965

The Righteous Brothers team with famed crazy person and also record producer Phil Spector to create one of finest melancholy love songs that have been made. It’s all about someone who realizes his girlfriend is no longer in love with him, and tries to bring the love back through some dramatic singing and an entire bag filled with production tricks. It goes low, it goes high, it goes slow, it starts up again with a volley of “baby” that keeps the song intense. Through it all, it keeps the listener curious and intrigued at what happens next. The love story, quite accidentally, doesn’t really matter that much, it’s largely about the attempts to squeeze the loving feeling back through increasingly elaborate production and singing. It’s an endlessly compelling song.
