The Young Rascals – Groovin’

First Hit #1: May 20, 1967

This is one of the great lazy songs, and I mean that as a major compliment. It is the ideal song for listening to on, well, a Sunday afternoon, when you just want to lounge around and be a bit lazy, possibly with a loved one who feels the same way. The relaxed groove is just a great compliment to not doing very much, and while much pop music is dedicated to making people get up and dance, sane people don’t want to dance on a lazy Sunday afternoon. They want to relax, possibly with someone named Leslie, and have that unique kind of good time that a lazy afternoon represents. Credit to the Young Rascals with coming up with the perfect compliment to it, and doing it through a song with a tight arrangement and general mood that clearly took a lot of effort to produce, but compliments that mood perfectly.
