Love Unlimited Orchestra – Love’s Theme

First Hit #1: February 9, 1974

This is not the obvious single from a Love Unlimited Orchestra album. That’s because this is Barry White’s group, and Barry White has that famous bass voice that can make all the ladies lose their panties. So, naturally, the hit is the instrumental, which seems like it has ample opportunity to get White to come in, say one of his famous “awwww yeahs” and start signing about making love. It’s certainly not far from the regular sexy sounds, with the soaring strings and a slightly dirty waka-waka in there too. It is a pretty great instrumental, and it is a pretty sexy song overall, but it’s just a strange choice for a single when you’ve got Barry White in the band.
