I’m sure that many people think Feel Like Making Love is a cock rock staple, and it is. This, a different Feel Like Making Love, is not a cock rock staple, instead being the female equivalent to all the Marvin Gayes of the world, being an undeniably sexy song about situations which make a lady feel like being sexy. It’s rare to hear a song that embraces female sexuality without being kind of objectifying about it. Flack manages it because she’s doing something that I personally find quite sexy – she’s making it a situation where making love is a mutually pleasurable experience. She feels like making love because there’s a general sexy mood, and because both partners are really good at making each other happy. It’s not just sex, it’s making love, a very important difference, because there’s a definite emotional component that she regards as just as important as being physical – and she very much views the physical component as being essential, there are a lot of mentions of touching of various kinds. It’s sexy because it’s about levels of connection inherent in being lovers, and that’s why Roberta Flack’s Feel Like Making Love should be the song everyone thinks of.
