Alan O’Day – Undercover Angel

First Hit #1: July 9, 1977

This is really strange, a song about the greatest wet dream in the world. A man is lonely late at night, and magically a lady shows up in bed and they make love. Then she tells him that he’s going to be able to find love for sure, and he actually tells a woman this in the final verse and she doesn’t run screaming into the night, proving that she is the perfect lady for him. It tries to be fun, it’s kind of a weird novelty song, but throughout I kept thinking “why are you telling us this?” There’s something really weird and subtly creepy about the whole situation, and that makes the song less fun than it was likely intended to be. Then again, the ’70s were a different time, so maybe I’m misjudging the whole thing.
