Boyz II Men – I’ll Make Love to You

First Hit #1: August 27, 1994

It is the fall of Boyz II Men, or more accurately, the fall and early winter of Boyz II Men. The vocal group, with a brief, two-week, interruption by Ini Kamoze, will now own the rest of 1994. The group isn’t doing anything particularly new, but it’s doing something very comforting. Here’s a song about making love, and how Boyz II Men are considerate lovers who make it all about you, ladies. It’s easy to see why it’s a hit, the quartet’s smooth vocals have an undeniable appeal, and it’s also quite nakedly designed to be the ideal song for making love. If you’re graduating next year, it’s highly probable that this is what you were conceived to. It not aggressive, it’s kind, it’s a kind of polite sensuality that has a certain raw appeal to it. The band knows exactly the market they’re going for, and have the gifts to capitalize on what that market wants and the feelings those people want to inspire in their partners. The group is basically a marital aid, bless them for it.

  1. RBerman says:

Boyz II become men as ladies want to think of them: considerate, attentive, focused on the partner’s needs. The Beast, post-Beauty. How many movies have told that story in different settings? Country music is full of these sensitive guys as well. The waltz time even suggests that men like slow dancing more than R. Kelly’s bump-n-grind.
